Your balance card sums up a lot in a few words. This article explains each word, and the statement behind it.

The words on the card

On the cardMeaning
"14.5 available"Days you can use now, for a type that builds up over the year. It is what you have earned so far plus what you carried in, minus approved leave.
"18 / 25 days left"For a type with a fixed yearly allowance: what is left of the year's days.
"8.33 of 25 earned so far"How much of this year's days you have earned to date. With monthly earning you get a twelfth of the year each month.
"5 carried in"Days moved over from the previous holiday year. A negative number means you went over last year, and the overdraft carried in.
"2 pending approval"Days in requests still waiting for a decision. They are held, so a new request must fit around them, but they are not counted as used yet.
UsedApproved leave only.

Two years at once

Under Danish holiday rules, days earned from September to August can be used until the end of December the following year. So from September to December you hold days from two holiday years. HCM always uses the oldest days first. Leave booked for next year is taken from next year's days.

Why the numbers move

  • Each month, a monthly type earns another share.
  • When a holiday year closes, up to the carryover limit moves on and the rest lapses.
  • An overdraft is never capped: if you took more than you had, the whole minus carries into the next year.
