Salary grades and the band check
Define salary bands and see how History checks a salary against them.

A salary grade is a pay band with a minimum, an optional midpoint and a maximum. When you record a salary in History and pick a grade, HCM checks the amount against the band.
Add a grade
- Open SettingsSalary grades and click Add grade.
- In Add salary grade, fill in Code (for example G3), Name, Currency, Min amount, Mid amount (optional) and Max amount.
- Click Save.
The list shows Code in bold, Name, Currency, Min · Mid · Max (for example "38,000 · 43,000 · 48,000 DKK") and Status. Use Edit, Archive and Unarchive.
Checks in the dialog: "Code and name are required.", "Min and max amounts are required numbers.", "Min amount must not exceed max amount." and "Mid amount must be within the min-max band."
The band check
In Record a change or Correct, choose a Salary grade (shown as "G3 - Specialist"):
- Inside the band, a green line says "In band for G3 (38,000-48,000 DKK)."
- Outside it, an amber line says the amount is below or above the band, and an Override reason field appears. You must fill it in to record the change.
- The period card then shows an amber "• out of band".
Other refusals: "The salary currency doesn't match the grade's currency.", "This grade requires a salary amount - enter one or clear the grade." and "That salary grade no longer exists - pick another."
The check compares the number only. It does not look at the pay period, so an hourly rate checked against a monthly band will look far below it. Keep grades and salaries in the same pay period.
