You cannot approve your own request

Why nobody may decide their own request, and what happens when you are the only approver.

Nobody may decide their own request in Flexshop. This holds for every role, including Application Administrators, in both apps.

What you see

  • Your own request never appears under Approvals in the portal.
  • In the console the decision drawer is read-only: "You cannot decide your own request." Your own request has no tick box in the queue.

When you are the only possible approver

Flexshop never plans a step that only the requester could take. If that would happen, the request is refused when you try to send it:

  • "Nobody else can approve this request yet: the only approver found for the Manager step is you, and nobody may approve their own request." You are your own group's approver, or the fallback approver.
  • "Nobody else can approve this request yet: you are the only person who holds the {role} role it needs, and nobody may approve their own request."

The fix is always to add a second person: another approver on the budget group, a different fallback approver, or a second holder of the role. An administrator can check this in advance with Try it, which warns "Only the requester holds {role}, …" or "The only Manager found for this request is the requester, …". See Test your rules with Try it.

Small teams

If you are the only Application Administrator and also the approver of your group, your own requests need someone else. Name a colleague as the fallback approver on Approval flows, or as the approver on your own group.
